Meeting DH who will be in London for work. Then we have the rest of the week to go wherever. We have been to Italy approx. three times or so, been to Prague and Paris, a few islands in Greece. Where should we go during that week?
Here are some places we are considering: Portugal - haven't checked logistics, assuming it is easy to get to, been on the list for a while. Amsterdam - heard it's a cool city to visit, is almost a week too long there? Spain - any city, I've never been, DH visited in college, but hasn't been back France - would love to visit the south of France I would love something on the Mediterranean. Relaxing, some sight-seeing, but don't want to go, go, go, if that makes sense. Worried about the summer heat. |
Do you want to rent a car or not? If not I'd go to Madrid and another city (we did Madrid and Barcelona). If you don't mind renting a car, then do the South of France. French kids won't be on break yet so less busy. |
You could pair either Lisbon or Porto with the Algarve. I might be more inclined to Porto and the Douro and then down to the Algarve. |
Disney+ has an awesome documentary on the Netherlands. That would be my vote but I haven't been. |
If you’re envisioning the Mediterranean, then not Amsterdam; it’s a great place but it’s just not that vibe.
Portugal or Spain or Croatia? Corsica or Malta? |
With kids?
Spain - including Mallorca |
NO KIDS! |
I’d do Denmark, the northeastern coast then to the city. |
Stay in the UK. Visit Dorset or Devon or Cornwall or Wales. There are lots of wonderful places to visit outside of London. |
You could stay in the UK and visit places like York and Edinburgh too.
Just depends on what you want to do. |
I'd do Ireland. |
Amsterdam hands down! I’m there now and have already fallen in love with it. It’s so walkable, the food is great, and you can get there from London on the Eurostar. |
Whatever country, I'd suggest getting out in the provinces and visiting smaller towns. At a busy time, it may be more enjoyable to avoid the masses in the major cities. |
I really adored Amsterdam, but that’s because I loved the art museums and the food. We ate at this amazing baked potato restaurant that I still think about sometimes. |
Amsterdam is a really easy place to visit and get around, and has lots of good food and museums. |
