Please recommend an affordable but nice hotel in either San Francisco or Marin county. |
Bump |
We stayed at the Waters Edge in Sausalito and liked it. We took the ferry into San Francisco. |
It's a big city and a big county. Might want to help narrow it down a bit by preferred location or activities or something. |
And price. Are we talking sub $300? sub $200? |
If you’re taking ferry to SF, there’s a big hotel at Larkspur Landing or hotels right in Tiburon (Waters Edge or Lodge, iirc) or Sausalito. All three towns have SF ferries in walking distance. Larkspur Landing isn’t as cute as Tiburon and Sausalito but it has more ferries. Mill Valley is really nice and good for Muir Woods but you’ll drive to ferries. Farther west is the San Anselmo Inn but more traffic if heading to SF. But cute and good for heading out to Point Reyes. If you’re really looking to save money, you could stay up in Terra Linda or Novato. Check out train schedule to Larkspur ferry. But I’d probably opt for a walkable ferry hotel. |
I think that’s in Tiburon? But right by the Tiburon ferry so a nice choice. Tiburon and Sausalito both have really nice walking along the water. Both gorgeous. |
We stayed at Hilton Financial District. The hotel is next to Chinatown and walkable to a lot of attractions. It’s an older hotel- it shows from the exterior, but the rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. We paid under $200 per night for a high floor room, which had a great view of the bay and Coit Tower. |
The Sausalito recommendation is genius. Not OP but we will do that next time! I am not sure why it never occurred to me given we always go to Sausalito when going to San Francisco, even hiked there once and took ferry back. |
I'm traveling soon to the Northeastern United States. Can you suggest an affordable hotel? |
There is no need to mock. OP here, and I will be booking at the Waters Edge. Thank you to the person who made that suggestion. |
Well, but there is sort of a need to mock- as stated above, the original question was too broad, and you haven't narrowed it down. I'll give you an example- maybe your Marin location is important to be able to take a ferry or bus into SF or maybe to the Golden Gate Bridge. Staying in Sausalito makes a lot of sense for that- but the Waters Edge hotel is in Tiburon, which yes is close to Sausalito but much less accessible without a car. That's why adding specific information is helpful for requests like this. |
+1 Plus, what does “affordable” mean to the OP? |
What is going on lately with people all over this board policing how people ask, nitpicking, chastising for not asking exactly the right way, then being condescending? OP just told you she booked a hotel. You can rest. |
PP here who always presses for some more details. I always think of it like this- if a friend said "I am going to San Francisco, what hotel would you recommend?", my first response would be "what area do you want to stay, or what are you planning on doing"? They would probably also mention if their kids were coming, etc. Generally they would have already mentioned when they are going, of course. That's why these questions always arise- they are natural things that would shape a recommendation, and they would normally come up naturally in an in-person conversation. They are pretty important in being able to give a considered answer/response. That's why its frustrating when people don't include some of these basic pieces of info. |
