Any Mcps HS have sports programs

Anonymous
DD currently in 7th at private K-8 but moving back to mcps for public HS.
We’re in the NEC.
She is interested in a career involving sports of some kind, maybe PE teacher, some kind of sports trainer or similar. Are there any HS with programs that would focus on this?
I’ve looked online and don’t see anything.

Look into the science and health tech programs at Paint Branch HS in the NEC. You can always call the school for more info but found this link.

Not a whole program, but there is a course at the IB schools (Springbrook) in Sports and Exercise Science.

In addition, you could check with the athletic trainer at the high school to see if they offer an in-school internship.

At my kids' MCPS HS (not NEC), kids can apply to be the athletic trainer's intern during their senior year. It would be 1 or 2 periods during the school day.

I was also going to suggest Paint Branch.

Another thought is that they could get involved with different teams. The teams that my kids were on always had kids who functioned in non player roles. Maybe reach out to the Athletic Directors at each of the schools and see what’s available along those lines.

This seems like a very high interest area. I was looking at Blake’s college page and was kind of surprised at how many kids were looking towards that type of program. And when we went on college tours lots of schools had great internships in that area.

Look into MC dual enrollment. There are a bunch of classes for sports trainers, group fitness and also PT and kinesiology

This is a great idea. She could finish high school with her AA in a related discipline, and then have a credential to use and earn money while pursuing her BS.
