I’m trying to see if she stepped on something. Or could it just be from running on sidewalks?
First time we’ve taken her running in the city. |
What is she doing that makes you think her paw pads are bothering her? Is she due for a nail trim? Overgrown nails don’t feel good to run on. |
Sidewalks, and especially black pavement, can get super hot. I try to find sides out of the sunlight and check how hot with my hand. They sell booties for when pavement gets real hot. Id just rinse in cool water for now. |
She just seems sensitive about her feet, and not herself. The only thing I can think of is that run |
Musher's Secret is amazing stuff, and it's not expensive.
Always check sidewalk temps. Put your own hand on it. If you can't hold your hand in place on the concrete/asphalt for 7-10 seconds, it's too hot for your dog. Air temps in the 80s and up are reason to be concerned about ground temps, and we hit 85 in MoCo yesterday. |
Good tip, I’m buying some, thank you. But it wasn’t hot when they went running. It was in the early evening and was cool. I can’t figure out what’s wrong… she’s eating and going to the bathroom normally, but seems to be limping a little, and seems sensitive about her paws. She was licking them a lot last night. |
Stepped in something caustic? Abraded pads? Ask DS where they went and what surfaces.
Ask your vet. |
Op here. Hmm, she was running on pavement (not hot) according to DS. Her paws don’t look scraped or pink or bloody. I’m thinking it might be her nails. Dh hates cutting them at home so we wait until we see the vet. Our next appt is in two weeks |
I mean, if I don't cut my toenails correctly and then go for a run, my feet hurt too... If you don't want to cut them, teach your dog to stand for a dremel and file them. I do my dogs' nails every Friday. Takes about 10 minutes. Dremel was $40. |
Hmm checked her nails. They’re fine. Darn, I wonder what this is. She seems otherwise happy and normal but there’s a little crick in her gate the last few days. I’m suddenly so paranoid she has cancer or something, I don’t know why. She has a vet appt soon. |
Go to the vet. Please. Do not wait for an appointment ‘soon’. Call them and have her seen now. |
This is an overreaction. A slight limp/sensitivity that doesn't interfere with eating/drinking and doing bathroom business isn't an emergency, and can be taken as a 'wait and see'. Unless you want to go pay thousands for diagnostics that may reveal nothing, a couple of days wait to evaluate whether or not the situation improves is appropriate. If the dog isn't putting weight on it at all, is obviously distressed, can't get to food or get outside to toilet, is actively bleeding, etc. well then yeah, that's a "right now" call. But a minor discomfort the dog can work through isn't an emergency call. |
OP, it's been a few days... How's your dog doing? |
Op. She’s fine, thanks for asking! Not sure what it was though… |
