This is one of the stories that breaks my heart.
Even on DCUM, people keep arguing that the Trump administration is actually trying to end illegal immigration while supporting those who come legally. And even on DCUM, people keep urging the protesters to find a better champion of the cause than person X, Y, or Z whose narrative's the Trump administration has already controlled -- in many ways dishonestly and disingenuously. Well here is a clear-cut miscarriage of justice! This guys is a professional athlete, a beloved community member, and a dad. He came legally. He did everything right. I repeat: HE WAS HERE LEGALLY. He has no criminal record. There is no other way to spin this story (though I fear for him now because I know Kristi will try). The only thing against Jerce Reyes Barrios are a tattoo and a social media photo with the rock n roll gesture. This is an atrocity. We cannot allow this to happen. There is no excuse. We should all be protesting every day and crying every night. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/08/cecot-detained-family-impact |
Perhaps he shouldn't be in El Salvador, but this looks like another fake asylum case, and he shouldn't be in America either. He just wants to work in America, maybe professional soccer. |
DP. YOU don't get to decide what's a "fake asylum case." A judge does. Get it? |
If there were as many illegals in the country as the right suggests, there would be no need for any cases like this.
It only lends credibility to the idea that the right has wildly overplayed the issue. |
I don’t trust the Guardian reporting due to extreme media bias. In general the media gets these things wrong, like they did with wife beating, alleged human smuggler from El Salvador.
Here’s DHS “DHS spokesperson Tricia McLauglin said that the feds’ determination that Barrios’ was a gang member goes “beyond a single tattoo” and that they “are confident” in their findings. She said Barrios was in the US illegally, adding that his tattoos “are consistent with those indicating” Tren de Aragua membership.“ |
We had 11 million in 2022. Likely an underestimate then, and way more allowed in via Biden after that. Is that enough illegal immigration to be a concern for you? CIS: “Two separate polls released in the past week show strong support for President Trump’s key immigration policies: closing the border and deporting aliens here illegally. In fact, those are the most popular among the new administration’s policies, underscoring lingering discontent over the prior administration’s much more permissive immigration stances.“. This was in April, just last month, citing polls by CBS and Harvard. |
The Trump administration claims it had the authority to deport the migrants it suspected of gang affiliation without court hearings under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. So far, four judges have questioned the legality of this use of the AEA. This is not going to work out the way the Trump Administration is hoping. If he defies what these court rulings then he is a dictator. Period. 1) Chief Judge James E. Boasberg (D.C. District Court) On March 15, 2025, Boasberg granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) preventing the deportation of five individuals challenging the use of the AEA. He later expanded this order to include all individuals in U.S. custody facing removal under the AEA. The court emphasized that deportations should not proceed without judicial oversight. 2) Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein (Southern District of New York) On April 9, 2025, Hellerstein issued a TRO halting deportations of Venezuelans detained in parts of Texas and New York under the AEA. He later granted a preliminary injunction, ruling that the administration's invocation of the AEA was invalid, as the detainees were not engaged in an "invasion" or "predatory incursion" as required by the statute. 3) Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. (Southern District of Texas) On April 9, 2025, Rodriguez issued a TRO preventing the deportation of individuals from the El Valle Detention Center under the AEA. On May 1, he granted a permanent injunction, ruling that the administration's use of the AEA was inconsistent with legal standards and did not justify the removals. 4) Judge James Wesley Hendrix (Northern District of Texas) In the case W.M.M. v. Trump, Hendrix is overseeing a class action lawsuit challenging deportations under the AEA. The case was filed on April 16, 2025, and is pending further proceedings. |
Why do you believe ANYTHING this administration says? They have yet to be factual on anything they say publicly. Look at the court filings and compare how the signed legal document claims are different than what the press flacks say. |
lol. I trust Trump admin even less. Look at what happened to Garcia.. first it was "he is in TdA..", then it was, "oh, it was admin error..".. then it was "oh, we can't get him back". Sad. |
The claim from Trump was that there will millions of criminals in the country illegally. If that is the case, why aren't they focusing on those criminals rather than US born citizens, green card holders and people otherwise here legally? If there were sooo many criminals here doing crimes who were undocumented, then it should be shooting fish in a barrel to identify them and get them out. That isn't what is happening. Why do you think it is ok for unmarked and unidentified people to simply kidnap people off the streets and have them sent to a gulag? The reason due process is REQUIRED under the US Constitution is to ensure people who are here legally or are US born people are not mistakenly sent abroad or otherwise imprisioned. I thought the right was for the Constitution and the rule of law? |
An aggregate number going back decades. Most of these people are simply living lives, contributing to the economy, paying sales and other taxes while pulling nothing back from entitlements to the tune of $60 billion dollars per year. |
Great. Where's the government's evidence? Let a judge decide if there is credible evidence. The much-cited (by Trumplicans) "evidence" of tattoos being definitive evidence of Tren de Aragua membership has been repeatedly questioned or debunked. |
Prove it in court or STFU. |
No need to. |
I read somewhere several weeks ago that the problem is there aren't enough people filling his claims about really horrible criminals and people from "insane asylums" to get him the numbers he wanted. Obviously, if that had been true, then are doing a terrible job wasting time on people who do not present a risk to the public and getting bogged down in court proceedings while the real "horrible criminals" are going about whatever they do. |
