I am going on a 12-day vacation and am currently using one of the GLP-1s. How do you handle this type of interruption in taking your medication? It will not be possible for me to refrigerate the medication and take it with me. |
Just take it when you get back. It's fine. |
It can be at room temp for 21 days. |
I find skipping a week is a non issue. I’m on 1.0 for maintenance, so maybe a lower dose is why. |
Take it with you. You can carry it on. I went 2 weeks once and felt super sick the day I took my shot. |
You can buy those little cold storage cases. Look for ones designed for insulin. |
I just take it with me, and don't worry about it being at room temp.
But this is a great question for the pharmacist. |
I took an injection the day I left and the day I returned, but took over a week off while gone, and it was fine. It was nice to enjoy food on the vacation as it was wearing off. |
My dd has to travel w/ a refrigerated medicine. Just put it w/ an ice pack in your carry on. Pack the needles in your checked bag or if you carry it with you, have your prescription available. |

Can compounded medication also go without being refrigerated for several weeks? |
Wegovy can go 29 days without the refrigerator - I have been on it for 6 months, keep it unrefrigerated the entire time (no one in my house knows I'm on it - take the shot the day I pick it up, and once a week until I'm out, pick up a new rx of 4, etc.). |
Check with your provider since they are multi use vials it might be different |
I heard from my provider and you can keep the multi-use vials at room temp for over a month. I’ll keep it in a cold storage case. |
It doesn't need to be refrigerated in this instance. Once you take a dose out of the fridge it can be kept at room temperature for about 30 days without losing potency. |
