Thyroid medicine for Perimenopause

Does anyone know anything about a "thyroid" med to take during perimenopause? My friend is in perimenopause and said she had been prescribed testosterone and a thyroid med to help with perimenopause symptoms. I asked her about it but she didn't know much else. I know about testosterone, but does anyone know about the thyroid medicine? I am trying to figure things out to ask my dr about for perimenopause.

You need bloodwork to see what your FSH is. There are different meds for hyper and hypo thyroidism.

I don't think there's a connection between thyroid medicine and perimenopause. Thyroid medicine is for hyper and hypo thyroidism, as PP noted above. Maybe your friend needs the medicine because she developed thyroid issues at the same time she is undergoing perimenopause.

Absolutely not, unless bloodwork shows that you have specific deficits in those areas.

Thyroid problems are more statistically likely to occur starting in middle age, like many medical issues. But it doesn't mean there is any medical link between perimenopause and thyroid imbalances. Testosterone is not a typical medication that is prescribed for perimenopause either.

Your friend is dangerously ignorant about her own health, it's actually scary that she understands so little.

That makes no sense. Ask your doctor about what you need. Not about what your friend is doing.
