If stay on waitlist is it automatic “kid is going” if comes off waitlist or is it kid told off waitlist and then have X hours to decide and submit schedule?

Not automatic. Acceptance response has to be provided in portal. From waitlist, student gets about 3 to 5 days to decide on offer. There is a series of registration related paperwork that follows after acceptance. So far from automatic.
Keep an eye on parent and student email inbox, even if going on extended out of town summer vacation. But dont keep hopes high. After a week past this initial acceptance deadline, the chances of getting off waitlist drops to almost nil. |
How much time do admitted students get to make their decisions? |
The offer email that came out last evening should have mentioned an acceptance deadline date and time? What is it? |
Four weeks I believe. |
TJ will send out several rounds of get-off waitlist offers. Don’t lose hope.
Our DC got off waitlist in the 2nd round. DC is thriving at TJ now (still straight A, enjoys everything the school offer). We knew from the beginning that DC belonged there. |
Can waitlist kids go to preview night? Assume no but would be helpful in case did get off list. |
Does 2nd round mean waitlist? Or 10th grade admit? |
May 14 at 4 pm. But course registration is due May 9 so I imagine most kids have made their decision by then. |
There’s no screening at the gate for preview night, but I wouldn’t recommend taking a waitlisted student and raising their hopes unnecessarily considering the random chance of getting off the list. A better approach is to stay connected with those from your middle school or neighborhood who already have offers or upperclassmen and get a full rundown once your student receives an offer. |
Most students who decline their offers usually wait until the May 14th deadline. So, expect the next wave of waitlist offers to go out around May 15th or 16th. After that, there’s typically very little, if any, movement on the waitlist, unless someone relocates or has other personal circumstances. Over the summer, Loudoun AOS/AET waitlisted applicants who receive an offer from there may choose that closer option and give up their TJ spot, but those cases are also rare. |
To people answering- thank you, really helpful. |
Waitlist. We received the offer around end of May. |
Someone on DCUM posted link that had old waitlist rates from prior years but I am not finding again. Again have link for prior year waitlist # that could share? Thx |
