IReady

Anonymous
Hello everyone
I’m wondering if strong i-Ready scores can help support my child’s AAP application, especially since we’re not able to afford a IQ test right now, and there is a huge difference in his irrady rate this year compared to tha last year he is 3rd grade (principal replacement) and he doing really good . Cogat last year142

This winter, my child scored:
• Math: 99th percentile (500)
• Reading: 98th percentile (609), which is a big jump from last year’s 86th percentile.

Do you think these scores are considered strong indicators in the AAP process?
Any insight would be appreciated—thank you!

Yes, 100% include the iReady winter scores. Ask your school for the full score report. If you look at the score in parentvue it will only say above grade 4 for sections where he is above grade level. The full score report will show how many grade levels above.

In math just number and operations section questions above his grade

And in reading all section above his grade

Your post was a little unclear. Your son is in third grade - did you apply for AAP this year, and was he denied? If so, you can appeal. If not, you'll need to wait until he's in fourth grade to apply. I agree those are good iReady scores and should help his application a lot.

If your child is 3rd grade, did he apply to AAP this year?

Yes I applied he got rejected
I want to appeal

Absolutely include the iReady scores. I'm sorry to learn that they were rejected with that CogAT. The iReady scores might not be enough though, unfortunately. Try to explain in a polite letter why your child needs AAP, perhaps with some annotated work samples that could help to overcome any deficiencies in the previous HOPE, or else an explanation in your letter. Good luck!

You mentioned his Winter iReady scores were a lot better compared to his scores last year. Did you mean compared to his fall third grade scores? The fall third grade scores would be the ones that were included in the packet. Also, have you seen the packet that was submitted by the AART? If not, you should request to see that before you appeal.

You can also argue how he's thriving with the principal placement, iReady scores are evidence (maybe grades also support? if yes, add to appeal). If he's much happier, more engaged, developing better, etc. with the principal placement, that seems like strong evidence he *needs* full-time AAP. They just need to make it guaranteed now with central selection- there should be a nice way to say that!

That’s so helpful Thank you
What do you mean by grades?

Progress reports (if they're good) - just an idea. I submitted for my child 2 years ago. Not sure if they accept or not since it's not on the appeal form but it was evidence I thought was worth submitting. My child was admitted on appeal.

His report is a mix of 3s and 4s so it’s solid but not especially outstanding

You should really request the HOPE so you know more about why he might have been denied so you can target that head on in your appeal.

(Though I completely understand not wanting to see the HOPE and felt the same way!)

Good luck!
