Investigation at my kid’s preschool

Found out today from another mom that a teacher hit a student and it was witnessed by other teachers (one of them called child services). Director is downplaying it and defending the teacher. Anyone been through this? I can’t believe we haven’t gotten an email.

Did you report it to the licensing bureau? In Virginia, that is the Virginia DSS and Fairfax County.

What county is this in? Sounds very similar to something that happened at our pre-school years ago with how the Director is acting.

Time to look into other options. I am not bothered by paperwork mistakes at preschool or child care, but safety issues always are troubling.

Time to leave. There could be an abusive teacher at any school; the director downplaying it is the real red flag. I'm sorry.

Before you leave, you should address the issue with the administration and let them know you will vote with your feet and encourage others to do so if they aren't following the correct protocol.

I would politely disagree. No good can come from the above, because the administration already has made their decision. If leaving, then leave quietly. If asked why you are leaving, evade the question or say it is a "change in family situation".

Not easy to move preschools, esp once you've found convenience, affordability, a place where your child is happy, and, they have a slot for you And, I don't think you have all the info, just lots of hearsay. I would push the director and see what more you can find out, while also looking for another center. What you find out from the Director (first hand), and the ability to switch to another center will affect if/when you change preschools or not

you need to obtain an extremely clear explanation of what happened and how it was handled. I can’t imagine leaving my kid somewhere if there was some chance they’d be hit by an adult.

Power in numbers - assemble a significant number of concerned parents.

Does the director have a boss?

Did you speak to the director yourself, or did you just hear all of this from your mom friend?

It sounds like you heard a rumor and do not know what the truth is.

Go to the director, say what you heard, and ask what's going on. They may or may not be able to give details at this point if there is an investigation going on. Get the facts before coming to any conclusions.

It’s one thing to leave yourself but why would you go out of your way to encourage others? Are you a high schooler? Deal with your own family.
