We have a low WL number for both. Any thoughts on one versus the other? Distance is about the same.
Cooper has a new building, but would also prefer an option for French. Not sure about Cooper’s plans for a third language. 2nd Street has more established corp of teachers, but younger teachers can be amazing in their own way. Have any differences emerged between the campuses that would help choosing between them? |
There are like zero humans who ever been at both (there is not transfer preference) so you are asking the wrong question. You need to ask for specific feedback from people who are at each and then compare yourself. |
No teachers have moved between? |
Our family is at 2nd street and we are have had a wonderful, well rounded experience with dedicated teachers and great opportunities and experiences.
We’ve interacted with Cooper campus families via the fall fair/festival and through extracurricular activities and athletics that a joint endeavors. Those families have been engaging, kind and seem quite happy with their experiences minus the temporary physical space (which will be a nonissue for next year). Some established staff moved to Cooper Campus to provide leadership at the start. The one thing I would factor in is commute. At this time there is a bus from Glover Park and Tenleytown but not to cooper. I’m not certain if this will change as enrollment increases, but may be worth checking into if you are coming from that part of the city. I hope that this helps. |
Nice save. LOL |
most people still chose second street (rank it higher) unless they are closer to cooper, have a sibling already at cooper, far prefer spanish to french. this could change over time. but you still have the more established faculty and no new building or other possible expansion-related issues at the 2nd street location. |
We only listed Cooper, mostly because of commute pattern considering we have kids at another school. We did speak to happy families at both campuses. The biggest Cooper complaint was the building, but that won’t be an issue. |
Has it been decided that Spanish will be the third language at Latin? |
Cooper has Spanish. 2nd Street has french and arabic. both obviously also teach latin. |
Cooper has Spanish and Arabic. |
I mistakenly thought Cooper was Arabic and Chinese. Any indication what the third language at Cooper will be? |
it is spanish - unless they recently changed that |
Cooper has Arabic and Spanish. They plan to add a third, like 2nd Street. 2nd Street has Arabic, Chinese and French. |
Cooper still won’t have any space for playing fields for PE or field sports if that is important to you. 2nd Street has more established activities and is closer to a metro station. The activities situation will change over time, but it will take a while. And the distance from the metro is likely to matter more for older students who won’t want to take a bus. I don’t think there is a big difference in the quality of the faculty and staff or the curriculum, so relative compute might be your biggest factor. But they’ll be pretty close together next year too. |
I don’t think the metro/ bus thing is a big deal. Many kids don’t live close to a metro and the bus is more convenient. |
