Did you request the packet if your child got in?

Anonymous
My DD was in pool and accepted into AAP. I’m curious what her file looks like and what the teacher wrote about her.

Is it common to request the packet?
Anonymous
Yes I did after my DD got in. I was curious what was in it. It won’t hurt to ask.

Yes you can

Yes,I got my kids packet after he got in . I wanted to understand his strength and weakness, esply the HOPE scores .

I did, I was curious about his HOPE scores.

I did. It's good info to have. I would wait a bit to let the AART focus on people who are appealing.

Same here. I requested it a week ago, haven't heard back yet.

I was always curious, but never did, for all my kids. The honest reason is that I didn't want to be "that" parent. Even though I'm sure there were at least a handful of "that" parents at our school.

I was "that parent" and asked for the packet even though my child was accepted. I wanted to see what I thought would be the most hoenst evaluation of my child's skills and abilities. Most of my friends asked for the packet as well, regardless if their kid was accepted or not.

Yes, but I waited until after the appeal due date.

It does not seem rude to request information that involves your child. I don’t see how this is being “that parent”. It should take the AART about 5 minutes to send you the packet by email. Sheesh.

PP here. I probably didn't mention that this was entirely my own hangup, not my impression of anyone else.

Well, maybe because it’s spring break?? Were you seriously expecting the AART to drop everything when your email arrived and make sure you got a file for your kid by the next day?

Honestly, every parent should request this information before the AAP decision. If you plan to appeal a negative outcome, it gives you more time. If it's just to be able to address any weak areas with your child's behavior/academic performance, better sooner than later. With everyone on DCUM asserting that the HOPE was so important, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw DC had a pretty strong one. But asking for the AAP packet is a no-brainer.

I get this but you aren't "that parent" if you ask politely and respectfully. It's information the school is keeping on file about your child. It's honestly kind of foolish not to get it.
