Sobriety trend gaining steam? Noticed all last week…

Middle aged 40+ and older affluent men within earshot were asking about 0% beers. These are the type of men who’d be drinking either wine their wife at dinner or a draft IPA, bourbon or scotch.

April is long past dry January.

Getting sober has been a trend just as long as being a drunken loser has been a trend.

Being healthy is definitely a trend on the upswing, and alcohol is literally a poison. NA beer is also much lower in calories. It's a great option. I prefer kombucha when I am out, though.

Went to a restaurant last night with 10 people and less than half ordered cocktails and alcohol. But the ones that did definitely made up for the rest of us sober people!

I don’t know if sobriety is trending, but 0 proof liquor and mocktails definitely are.

I think when you try sobriety you become hyper-aware of others drinking or not drinking. My husband and I would both perk up whenever anyone at a table in earshot mentioned “0%.”

What was fascinating is many husbands seemed to be doing 0% beers and the wife would still order wine for herself. Is sobriety a slightly bigger trend among men? I find that hard to believe but it sort of seemed that way on our vacation.

It’s absolutely a trend. My BIL owns college bars and he said college kids these days don’t drink at anywhere near the levels college kids did 10+ years ago.

And look at food menus at trendy restaurants frequented by DINKs and the affluent - precious menu real estate listing mock tails and 0% beers.

The 0% beers are so much better than back in the day.

Because, if they are like my wife, they refuse to be designated driver so I'm stuck not drinking while she ties one on.

Drinking as well as socializing has lost its appeal for my husband and I and we are happier for it.

This is us! I still drink, but after my DD was born 10 year ago DH quit. He said it disrupted his sleep. We alternated nights with DD if she woke up. He couldn't take the sleep deprivation, so that was it. Then he realized he didn't like alcohol as much as he thought so he never went back. Personally, I like occasional wine. I'd never drink a whole bottle myself, so I only get a glass when I'm out and he's driving.

As the wife of an alcoholic, this would be good news. We all know prohibition doesn't work, but alcohol use disorder is a terrible disease.
