Can anyone share experiences for their DCs where they were in a preschool or kindergarten class that was skewed either heavy boys or heavy girls? Did you feel it was particularly relevant at that young of an age? |
My child’s PreK class skewed heavily to having lots of girls and his K class has way more boys.
He plays with everyone but his close friends are other boys, so PreK did have limitations due to how few boys were in the class. However I think it is not a big deal, if the schools are good. Quality of the school is the most important factor. |
I think the gender balance can affect the dynamic in the classroom. My son plays with both boys and girls but favors boys and is very into gross motor, sometimes rough play. I have actually preferred the class he’s in currently where it is majority girls, as it seems like he’s finally starting to outgrow this (but there are a lot of factors there of course). He’s very impressionable and the personalities around him matter a lot. The boys are all best friends. |
It affects the teacher's sanity if the class is boy heavy, that's for sure.
