| I usually check a few times a month (and not much changes), but knowing that gradebook closes today I have checked a few times today. Thanks to summative grades being 70% and so many teachers having 1-3 Summative assignments a quarter (often graded at the last minute) every time I check it's different story for both my kids. I don't blame teachers. I know the re-take policy is too much and they are overworked and underpaid. I know some go out of their way to grade in a timely fashion and have lots of formative and summative. I just find it wild that the last day of gradebook is just constant change throughout the day. No idea where it will land.... |
| Still waiting on one teacher to put any grades in for the quarter. There are so few. Why is this an issue? |
| This drives me nuts, honestly. The kids need to know where they stand. |
| You can’t have your cake and eat it too. All of the retakes cause many teachers not to input grades until everyone has taken the test. That and no subs means teachers don’t have enough planning time to grade. |

Same, and now it's gone so no clue where my student ended up. |
Exactly. We operate in a system that requires teachers to do all of their grading during the off hours, taking time away from their own needs and family obligations. Grading is essential, so teachers should be given time at work to grade. |
As a teacher, the past 3 weeks have been rough. Between students being out for illnesses (and getting them caught up), trying to get paperwork done for SpEd evaluations (because those have to be started 65 days before the end of the school year to ensure teacher availability for meetings), every parent suddenly wanting a conference (in middle school!), behaviors ramping up and needing to contact parents, updating my gradebook has had to come last. I've prioritized replying to parents within 48 hours, making sure that I'm ready to teach each class period, and my own health - I've been hit by the same allergies and illnesses that all of my students are experiencing. Add in staying at work 2-3 hours past contract time and 1-2 hours at home, it's little wonder teachers are burning out right and left. My grades will be entered by the 3rd quarter deadline set by my school, and that's the best I can do. |
I agree with this. How did the retake policy get changed? Did parents and teachers get a say? Was the old one better for teachers? It seemed more reasonable to me as a parent. If you get a 79 and can only retake to an 80, why bother, but if you can retake to get 100 more kids will do it and that's so much work. |
This is the answer. |
Well said. I’m starting to prioritize my own health, as well. I had a real wake-up call this year after devoting 70ish hours a week to the job. I’ve been burning myself out and neglecting my family, and for what? The more I do at work, the more that’s expected of me. It never ends. I’ll do the best I can do in 55 hours a week, I decided. And if it’s not enough, then I’ll quit. |

English grade only had 3 grades they updated and now has 11
History teacher was updating it today it was going up and down same with science and Geometry class. only 2 teachers updated weekly. Student has B & A's in all the classes but stil.. ended History with 89.30 wonder if they will changed to A-. |
An 89.3 shouldn't get changed to an A-. I know a few teachers would round that up, but most would not. It's a B+ and should remain a B+. |

Don't kids know how well they've done in the quarter?
I have two kids (college and high school) and we always knew where we stood, unless one subject was really borderline between two grades. |
|
Our school doesn't do retakes and they still haven't gotten updated.
Teachers have block scheduling. Why can't they grade during class? |
