Where to get bloodwork, urinalysis for pet for cheaper (not Friendship Hospital)

Anonymous
Friendship Hospital is quoting us bloodwork + urinalysis costs of about 800$ for a pet with kidney issues. Anyone have recommendations of a hospital or vet who can do this for much cheaper?

We don't have pet insurance, and have had an unexpected job loss, and we love our pet but can't pay those kinds of prices anymore. Their estimate is charging 129$ for a syringe so I'm hoping there could be a vet or an animal hospital further out (even if we have to drive way out into Maryland or Virginia) where we can get care.

Thanks in advance.

After having a "never again" experience at Friendship, I switched to VCA: https://vcahospitals.com/find-a-hospital

If you tell us where you are, and if the pet in question is a cat or dog (or other), we can give you better rec's.

Bethesda. Cat. Thanks!

There's a new Small Door that just opened in Bethesda that has gotten good reviews. I believe their whole angle is that pricing is clear upfront; might be worth contacting them: https://www.smalldoorvet.com/locations/washington-dc/bethesda/

They work on a membership model (i.e. you have to buy a membership to use their services). Looks like they have a discount code today, LUCKY, that will get you $100 off that fee.

I go to vets in PG County. I find that PGC is cheaper for most things, even groceries.

Try Canal Clinic in Potomac. Or Fox Chapel Animal Hospital if you’re willing to drive to Germantown.

You only go to friendship if it’s 2 AM and your otherwise animal had a sudden unforeseen event and you think that emergency care will save its life at two in the morning

Otherwise, you never go to friendship

Nope. If it's that kind of emergency, you drive to VRA in Gaithersburg, which is a better run, better quality facility with better people.

You don't go to Friendship unless you have money and time to burn and don't actually give a single eff about the outcome for your pet. That place should be shuttered.
