Moving to Fauquier County - Trying To Understand Differences Between The High Schools, School Cultures, etc.

Anonymous
Greetings all,

My wife and I are moving to Fauquier County this summer and have 2 middle schoolers and one soon-to-be 9th grader.

We have a fair amount of flexibility in where in the County we move, but are ideally targeting the general Warrenton area to be closer to work, but that's not an absolute must if the school situation dictates living a little further out.

As we understand it, there are 3 high schools in Fauquier - Kettle Run, Liberty, and Fauquier. There are plenty of websites that rank schools simply by test scores, but we're hoping to learn more about the differences between these schools in terms of culture, what daily life looks like, etc. Really, just any information you may have to share about the schools and area is helpful.

Thanks to all!

I live next door in western Prince William county.
I've seen a lot of talk lately on Facebook about the Kettle Run high school football coaches under investigation. I haven't seen any official explanation of what exactly they are being investigated for.
Even if your kid does not plan to play football, reading up on what's going on might give you insight into the school culture in general.

Appreciate the information. My 3 are all girls, so would not play football specifically, but to your point, it could reveal things about the culture in general.

We moved from Loudoun to Fauquier a couple of years ago. We had a great experience with Fauquier High School! Some things that are different than most schools. My DDs Gov teacher is retiring this year after teaching Gov for 50 years! Over 65% of the staff are graduates of Fauquier High! They believe in old style discipline. ( As do many of the parents.) One of the neat ways they retain teachers is having the FFA kids take care of their dogs during the day. While the 7:30 Start time can be a little hard to get used to. My daughter enjoyed getting out at 2:30 in the afternoon. This allowed her to ride her horse year round. While in high school in Loudoun she did not get out until 4:05. Getting up early has really helped her in her first year at William and Mary. The early classes have very few kids in them. Her 8:30 class only has 9 kids in it! The track team is where most of the AP kids are after school, I can"t say enough great things about the coaches! If you are lucky enough to get Mrs Scott as a counselor she is by far the best counselor in the area! While in Loco we had not been happy with them doing nothing about kids bullying my DD. Fauquier High is a wonderful school that I highly recommend! The AP kids get into lots of great schools, one got a free ride to Princeton! UNC, Quite a few for UVA and of course Va Tech. One of the girls graduated with two Associate Degrees! Go check it out. It is a very warm welcoming school!

OP, I don't know if you've already decided or even still reading here, but it appears there is an update to the Kettle Run football coach situation.
