Why so many anti dog posts lately?

If people dislike dogs so much why do they frequent the Pet forum? So many recent posts that boil down to people disliking dogs and putting down people who have them. Why can’t they just skip the Pet forum if they aren’t pet people?

Posters who want to complain about dogs (and maybe cats) usually start by posting in the Off list forum. Then dear moderator moves those threads to the pets forum. Look at the one about someone asking if they can be helped during this economic uncertainty by giving away their dog to save $. It's not necessarily a doggie post but the thread was moved to Pets. Not the OP of that thread but did see it in Off list then next thing you know it was here.

I think during the pandemic a ton of people who'd always wanted a dog but never were able to due to their work schedules adopted/bought dogs, and were fairly clueless (if I'm being benevolent) or lazy (if I'm not) about socializing and training their dogs. I've had dogs for decades, and love them, but the uptick in the number of poorly behaved dogs in the last 5 years is extremely noticeable. And when you live in an urban/semi-urban environment, it's very difficult to avoid them. So I think people are venting their spleen about the situation here, although a small number of them sound like truly deranged dog-haters, not your normal annoyed neighbor.

Agreed. It definitely wasn't neighborhoods full of clueless and as you say lovingly lazy handlers pre pandemic or rise in work from home. Wonder if more owners have given up their dogs after RTO?

Because of the shockingly bad manners of many dog owners. I love dogs. Don't have one at the moment, but I will again someday.

And I HATE the way dog owners behave these days. They don't train them. They bring them into grocery stores and restaurants (someone had one in the bar/ lobby of a nice hotel the other day and was letting it climb on the furniture and approach other tables), they use those stupid retractable leashes, and don't train or supervise them, and let them act like, well, animals where animals don't belong.

So I'm not anti-dog, but I'm sure as hell anti-bad-dog-owner.

Maybe some of us are just old but never have I seen furry friends allowed inside medical or dental practices clinics. Someone brought their furry friend to a dental office. Aren't clinics supposed to be free of this? Another practice had water bowls inside by the front door. Definitely not going back to that practice.

I haven't started any of the posts nor have I reallyposted in the dog posts as of late, but I empathize with them.

People are getting so sick and tired of poorly behaved dog owners. We may politely walk by you, but inside we're annoyed at how you don't pull your dog aside, let it pee on our lawns, let it bark, and more.

Your dog is your choice and you love it. That's great. But the rest of us didn't make that decision.

And comparing dogs to human children just shows how further insane and many dog owners have gotten.

Thank you sincerely, you understand.

Yes. Here is an example of a puppy owner:

A thousand times this.

If someone tries that asinine excuse on me, it's over. I removed a colleague from a work project because she said that her dog was her baby and she should have the same rights as a parent. It's so unhinged that I just couldn't trust her judgment on anything.

Desensitization of dog ownership. It's an agenda across online forums by a certain group.

Correct answer (and you're WAY nicer than I usually am with the descriptors!)
