There’s an 9ft tall by 12ft wide hallway bulletin board in my child’s school that I’ve adopted, even though I have not one creative bone in my body.
It’s seen mostly by K-2 students, some of whom have expressed the need for more kindness from their peers. Anyone have any great ideas for a display that is easy to construct and will resonate with the kids? Bonus points if it’s an idea that incorporates kind words from the students, which can be easily seen from a distance. Thank you!!! |
If it doesn’t put a burden on the teachers, have each kid trace their hand on construction paper, cut it out, and write examples of kindness on their hand. Maybe the art teacher could do it as a project one week, or if the counselor spends time in the classroom, it might be an activity that would coordinate with their lesson. |
Teacher here. I get my ideas from Pinterest. I’m not creative either. |
Search ‘kindness tree’ on Pinterest |
Any season you can do some kind of kindness display with words kids write about others on leaves (you make the tree trunk/branches), hearts (Valentine's), snowmen, turkey feathers, hot air balloons, etc. You can send home the templates in weekly folders, they don't have to be done in class. Allow kids to do more than one. Since your board is big, make them big, which is easier for them to write on anyway.
You can tie in with themes about teachers, families, etc. |
I was doing image search for the ones that say kind where a kid can stand in for "i" but this website has some other ideas too.

You either print the templates on colored paper or tell kids to color them in. You can use multiple colors for leaves, etc. |
I said snowmen above. Probably should have said snowflakes for the kids. You make the snowmen as the context for the snow. The good thing about snowmen, trees, etc., is it's easy to scale the size and number to your space. Plus you don't have to be a great artist. ![]() |
Also flowers if you're just in charge for spring. You make the stems and leaves. Kids make petals or full flowers. |
