Why is Adrian Fenty still a Democrat?

Win or lose tonight what is the upside for staying in that party? The de facto leader of the party Barack Obama doesnt agree with you on school choice, wont help with statehood, doesn't seem to agree with your school reform, and wouldn't even campaign for you. Unlike 99% of the country in DC an Obama endorsement is a kiss of life not the kiss of death it is in the heartland. I would switch party as soon as this race is over to at least go "I". He loves Bloomberg so follow that route.

After tonight, Fenty CAN'T run as an I. If he wants to run in November he HAS to run as an R.

Even supposing he could win as an R (unlikely, but let's make it a thought experiment) he would serve ONE TERM. Because there is no way the DC Democratic establishment could live with an R as Mayor. Just on principle they would have to destroy him. He would have no *elected* political future after that one term (though appointed is another matter). OTOH, he's young. He can sit outside of politics for a couple of years and run again (say, for an At Large seat in 2 years) and get himself right back into the mix. But in order to do so, he'd have to remain a D.

Actually, since it looks like Kwame is about to leave his at large seat, maybe Adrian would try to get back on the horse in a couple of months. Not a prediction, just a thought.

Brilliant idea. Though I propose that Gray appoint him head of the Board of Elections.

Or appoint him to replace Rhee if she her position opens up?

Omit "she" in my 9:21 post. Careless rewriting.
