Ruby Franke/mormon mom-vlog doc

Okay, I have never watched any Mormon mom vlogs (or any type of vlog) but the Hulu documentary about Ruby Franke (and her 6 kids/weird husband/culty closeted therapist) is both shocking and incredibly engrossing. Highly recommend.

I am not familiar with her (I live under a rock 😀), but I will check this out. Thanks.

It is all very shocking. Shari Franke (her daughter)'s book gives a lot more insight than the documentary though. The documentary makes it seem like she only turned abusive when Jodi came into the picture, but her daughter makes it clear she was abusive their whole childhood.

I was home sick and watched the whole thing in one day, knowing nothing about her. The person l think should have been held at least partly culpable was her husband. Places his desire to be with his wife over the well being of all of his children.

+1. I’m two episodes in and what a weak man he is showing us to be.

I started it yesterday. What is up with their dad? I’m uncomfortable with his role in the documentary - how did he not have a clue what was going on? I think if my own family with a DH who travels weekly for work, and even he’d see some signs of abuse that was bad enough to put me behind bars.

Have not seen this doc but watched a Jodi doc and listened to a podcast about her. Part of what she did was disempower the dh to get close to the wife by exploiting the dh’s shortcomings and flaws ( especially things like watching porn which she would turn into them being deviants) So by the time she fully swept in, the dhs were afraid to truly lose the kids completely and were not seen as credible in terms of input and critiques of what was going on. She did not do this just to the Franke family, there was a pattern and families respected her authority as she was linked to the Church.

I feel he’s participating in this to try to make the public think he was just as much a victim of his wife (and Jodi) as his children and gain sympathy.

Which is sickening as he allowed not only his clearly nutty wife to abuse their kids, but some random woman to come in and take over his family.

After watching, Shari is the only one with any sense.

I refuse to watch.

Are the older 2 still Mormon?

I want to know where the other other family members were – no grandparents, aunts, and uncles on either side when they’re a family of Mormons?

Agree, I also read Shari's book and Ruby is a narcissist from the beginning. She was abusive to her kids before Jodi.

This sounds fascinating.

There is a Mormon family who lives down the street; I have not met them and I understand the kids go to a private school. Can’t say I know much about Mormons in .general.

Will chuck out the Hulu documentary. Thanks!

Just to be clear, this is a documentary about a mom blogger who abused her children in a horrific way.
