I have three kids in APS elementary now, and I have no idea what an “exemplary project” is. Does anyone know what fits under this? |
is your google broken?

Does everyone go to Tuckahoe? At our school the exemplary project teacher does science lessons in addition to gardening and clubs. |
Exemplary projects are a gimmick APS used to lure/encourage families to certain schools (ie, stay in your title I school v. opting out). They were to give each school a "unique" focus. They involve purchasing specific curriculum, maybe some fee for signing onto the project(?), and a staff member in charge of it. IOW, they are extra costs that do not significantly add to the overall education of our students. Yes, some of them are "cool" - but: 1. Every elementary school in the district should be providing the same academic experiences 2. These exemplary programs do not make a school any more exemplary than any other 3. They do not entice families to stay in their Title I schools and not opt out to immersion or other option programs 4. Their academic value is limited in terms of improving outcomes 5. Not all schools have them, including Title I schools that have discontinued them. 6. They are "nice-to-haves" that most people never even realize they have, or don't have, and superficially add luster to the impression of the school district being extraordinary or better relative to neighboring districts. They are not a hill in the budget battle worth dying on. Very low fruit. APS would be better served to develop its own exemplary project that provides the best possible education for all of our schools to use uniformly across the system. |
It’s like aSFS being a science school. |
Of course not but this is an example for the OP who had no idea what an exemplary project even is. I'm sure you can find more if you just put a little effort in. |
It's in the budget. Cardinal's is the arts (at the c0st 0f literacy). |
