Do you know of anyone that has ever gotten expelled?

I work at a school and for ten years, I have never seen anyone get expelled. For what it is worth, I work at a middle school. A student has bought a gun to school. Suspension but not expelled. A student bought a knife to school. Suspension but not expelled. A student stabbed another student in the hand with a pencil. Suspension but not expelled. Three students fought one child to the point of blood on the face and bruises. Suspension but not expelled. Must there be death to be expelled? For anyone that has known of someone to get expelled, what type of kid was this person? What did they do?

I know a kid who was expelled, he attended the alternative HS. He had a chance to return to his base school if he wrote a letter asking to be reinstated but he did not.

I know myself. I got expelled in the 90's, from HS.

My brother and I both got expelled in the early 2000’s.

Several from private schools. Behavior related.

One from public MS. Posted a pic of himself on social media holding a real looking gun (turned out to be airsoft) stating “I’m coming for you, teachersname!” I think he may have been arrested as well (or police involvement of some sort). I think the kid was pretty normal without major behavior issues before that. Not sure what prompted the threat.

2nd grader with severe behavioral problems a little over a decade ago. After months of parents complaining about this child, of students facing injuries at the hands of this child, of teachers and counselors collecting data, child was removed from gen ed and sent to a special school. In the years since, I've seen multiple ES kids with violent behaviors allowed to roam halls, skip classes they weren't interested in, and occasionally parents called to pick the child up (not often enough). It's awful

Most people withdraw before getting expelled.

Nope. Been working in public school for 13 years and have never seen it happen. I had one kid with an IEP found eligible to go to an alternative school for the following school year, but that was a very extreme case that required a year of documentation. There are so many laws guaranteeing a student’s right to an education that it is virtually impossible to kick them out.

That's not expulsion though. Schools have to college data on a timeline to have a change in placement. Plenty of students end up in different placements in other schools.

I know two contemporaries who were expelled from our state university in the 1990s - one for cheating and the other for hazing.

2 in HS went joyriding in stolen car and they were moved to another HS- not alternative, just not same they had been at. So “expelled” from their current but immediately at another FCPS HS.

My HS boyfriend was expelled from boarding school for alcohol-related infractions. This was near the end of senior year, and he ended up having to get a GED from a local community college.

I did in the early 90's for fighting in high school. It was not my home school-they'd allowed me to stay when my family moved. It was my opponent's home school so she stayed and I left.

There’s usually alternative programs for kids who are at risk for hurting others or themselves.
