| So I've recently lost a significant amount of weight (15%) without trying and I recently went to the doctor who ordered blood tests. The blood tests came back when the doctor's office was closed (naturally) and I reviewed the results myself and everything was normal except my platelets were 475. No other symptoms really except being tired and lack of appetite. No GI or intestinal issues, headaches, etc. I'm kinda worried about the obvious but just want to know.... |
| It could be anything at this point. Sounds like more tests are the order of the day. |
| OP here: talk me off the ledge....what are my chances of having cancer with this platelet count? I'm kinda freaking out until the doctor calls me back |
| I went down this rabbit hole on the other end (very low platelets) and did a bone marrow biopsy, basically they found nothing else wrong. I go to a hematologist once a month for monitoring. I hope you have a good outcome! |
| How much alcohol do you drink, if any? That can cause a high platelet count. |
Ohhh neat, the DCUM temperance union has shown up. PLEASE cite your source that alcohol consumption increases platelets. In the absence of a source, explain how it happens. |
You have it backwards. Alcohol can contribute to low platelets |
| How wad you WBC count? If that was normal you're prob ok |
I don't drink any...none. Quit drinking almost a year ago. |
WBC was normal but on the high end. Most of the normal results were on the high end but normal. |
| Are you iron deficient? |
My iron was fine. |
| So surely the doctor’s office is not closed on a Tuesday, right? Have you tried calling them today? |
I have and they said he hasn't had a chance to review them yet and he'll call me back
|
I think if it was something urgent, he would've called by now. |
