When will the CogAT scores be available?

Anonymous
My child took the test in December (I believe on 12/2). Will parents receive the scores by mail, or will they be posted on ParentVue?

I don't see cogat results yet,but I hear it does not matter at all.

So they won’t be using the cogat scores to help determine which second graders participate in Talent and Gifted in third grade? When did that change??

There is no “participating” in gifted and talented. It’s a meaningless flag that goes in your kids record. It doesn’t given them access to any different instruction or participating in different classes.

There is no Gifted and Talented program in MCPS. There is only CES, which is a criteria-based lottery for entering in grade 4 (and you have to change schools to attend unless your own school is one of the few CES locations). GT means nothing in any grade. "Enrichment" means a couple of extra worksheets for a couple of weeks until the teacher gets overwhelmed and has to give it up. Teachers genuinely do not have time to enrich, and tbh I don't blame them. We 'enrich' at home by spending time on extracurricular things that matter to our family. That's fine with me. All kids are bored in school sometimes. Part of life. I want more than school can offer and I have the leisure for it? That's on me, so the teachers can help the kids who need it.

P.S. In grade 4 your home ES will also have compacted math and ELC available. Those offer more challenge (theoretically).

At least some schools will have no ELC next year, maybe none of them will.

I agree it would be interesting to know how our kids perform on these tests.

When will parents of 3rd graders know that their kids are in ces lottery? Mid or late February? Our school happens to be one of the local CES location. That means if my child gets in, no need to change school.

Cogat doesn't have anything to do with CES

Not sure, but there was discussion here: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1252064.page

Grades are not just for special program access. Parents want to know how their kid is doing. Why is it so hard to get grades back from MCPS?

Still no CoGAT scores posted. Any ideas on when they might be?

I wonder if they will just put them on the G&T letters but never give us the score reports? That would be a bummer.
