Supplements for insomnia

Anonymous
I have had the *worst* insomnia during pregnancy, exasperated by the fact that there is major construction happening daily outside our apartment. I used to rely on Valerian but apparently people dont recommend it for pregnancy as there arent as many studies about the effects on babies. I would love to find a replacement sleep aid that will ease my sleep anxiety (much worse with this construction happening) and allow me to get a good night's rest

Thank you for these suggestions.
I already dont drink coffee, use ear plugs and a white noise machine. At this point I think I need something medical to soothe my nervous system and tamp down on the stress hormones so I can relax and sleep

+1 Pretty sure that’s what I used for insomnia during pregnancy. Just check with your OBGYN to be sure.

Ambien is safe during pregnancy. Preferred to meant OTC drugs because of its much shorter half life.

My OB okayed Benadryl - perhaps same active ingredient at Unisom? No sure but it did the trick. Non-pregnant I use melatonin.

Magnesium.

Also, unisom and the association with dementia is something to be aware of.

Magnesium- I’m pregnant and have been taking about 375 mg of mag glycinate at night, plus use a lotion containing magnesium for restless legs/cramps.

You can take skullcap and passionflower (make sure if you use an extract that it's alcohol free)
