It seems like her husband doesn't work for a non-profit. I'm partly kidding. It's definitely not as common as the west coast, but DC has decent paying software gigs if you aren't working for the government or a non-profit. The prominent example is Amazon/AWS, but there are others. |

| I’m curious what you people who make $250,000 and over do? It seems everyone on dc urban moms makes tons of money - but when I look at available jobs - they are usually a pay cut from my current salary ($215,000 and I am 50!). I work for an international organization so the natural alternatives would be government, government contractors, NGOs, think tanks. I’ve started thinking about transitioning to the private sector but have been surprised to see that Director level positions at many companies seem to pay not much higher than government. So curious to know what you all do? |
Not able to answer your question, but I see the same thing. |
This is the compensation at a non-profit, most of them make over 500K: https://nonprofitlight.com/dc/washington/financial-industry-regulatory-authority-inc |

I think a lot of them are including equity or other non-salary compensation. I have a coworker who's wife makes about 400k - she helped found a business that took off. Most of that 400k is profit sharing she splits with the other partners. I also have met a few people at FAANGs who make 300k+ but over half of that is stock. |
