Legal insurance?

Anonymous
My insurance company (for dental & vision) sent me a note that they will provide access to lawyers for a modest monthly fee. I hope I never need a lawyer in a criminal/divorce/DWI case, but if I do, I know it can be very expensive. Anyone signed up for this? Any lawyers on DCUM who would care to weigh in?

Check your homeowners & auto insurance and see what is already covered or what they'll offer in coverage. Think about when you'd actually use a lawyer (wills?) and see if that's covered.

Look at what is actually covered with the "access to lawyers" stuff. Many EAPs offer this, but it is a limited amount and tends to cover a consultation and not much more. And is really more of a referral service for the lawyers who participate.

If you do end up needing a lawyer, you are going to want to choose one -- not have one chosen for you. That is something to think about as well.

I used it for estate planning.

Exactly. The fee is minimal and the coverage is even smaller.
