Hire many times do I need to be told about emergency meals?

It’s great that they are doing this and making an effort to get the message out but do u really need so many notifications? Between central office texts and emails, two different schools communications and PTA messages, I’ve received TWELVE notifications in the last 15 minutes.

Yesterday was just as bad.

Be grateful that you don’t need even a single notification of a way to get a meal for your child.

Yeah, seriously OP, what’s wrong with you? Did you make a thread too to complain about the multiple notifications about the school closure?

This is the most privileged thread I’ve seen in a long time. Get a grip.

Don't they have record of which families typically get meals at school and only send communications to those families? Maybe that is too much to expect from the largest school district in MD. Or is it for any family needing a meal this week?

+1 thinking exactly this

It is any family that needs a meal this week, not just those on FARMs.

For my school, that will include many families that might normally make enough from gig work or day labor that they can feed their kid without FARMS.

+1000 Imagine this is the thing one decides to complain about.

I got three. Hmm.

I only got one, so it seems like maybe repeating it a few times to be sure makes sense.

OP - To answer your question, you are signed up for a number of lists/channels because you are presumably an engaged English-speaking parent who had the time and knowledge to get on the PTA listserve, etc.

But a lot of the families who need this information are not going to be on the PTA listserve.

They might also not have a reliable mobile phone number, and be relying on temporary phones or forced to change numbers several times over the course of their child's education.

Yes, it's annoying to you personally but it's best practice to reach food insecure families who often have sporadic access to email/texts/etc.

You? Apparently 0. Congrats!

But, it isn't for you.

Perhaps you should show up at the next board meeting, or show up at the next PTA meeting, and when it's time for the general public to speak ask if they can work on a form or something for people who aren't poor or underresourced to opt out of certain communications? I'm sure that'll go over well.

Two things can be true at the same time. OP can have compassion for those needing extra food AND be frustrated about the excessive communication from MCPS. Just like I’m grateful MCPS tries to inform parents when their child is absent from school AND I’m irritated that they leave me multiple voicemails stating my child was absent when it was an excused absence.

It's so annoying and distracting to get extra message that you had the time to come to dcum to complain. Lordy.
