Global Citizens Public Charter School

I did the DC lottery for 25/26 school year, & I put Global Citizens as one of the options. Any feedback/reviews on this school?

Bumping because I'd like to see more feedback too.

Does China provide the curriculum?

I haven’t been able to get much information, but I do like that it is a dual immersion l school. I looked at the other dual language schools in DC, but I noticed that hundreds of people put it on their list so my chances would be slim to none.

Based on their website, they use Creative Curriculum. Since the curriculum is not available
in Mandarin the Chinese teachers translate into their language and supplement with Mandarin books.

I have two children in the school on the Chinese track and they love it. There are two teachers in each class of about 20 kids, we have a tight knit parent community and I’ve been amazed at how much they are learning.

Do you have any feedback on how the school supports student who may have social & emotional issues? social emotional learning? How would you describe the overall behavior environment in the school?

I don’t have experience with the support for kids with social-emotional issues but know that the school employs a school-based clinician who hosts various initiatives focused on wellness and social-emotional support for all kids. One parent shared with me that the clinician has been incredibly helpful with her son on a one-on-one basis but I don’t have first-hand insight.

Okay, thank you for the feedback. I definitely appreciate it. Also, is it safe being in Collegiate building? Are they completely blocked off from the high schoolers?

Have one kid in the Mandarin track (now third year in K) and another starting this fall. Overall the school is a great fit for us. It draws such a wonderful mix of families and we very much appreciate the parent group we have found. Teachers have also been great (both English and Chinese) and our son loves going. As much as I appreciate that the teachers give him accelerated work in small group settings, I appreciate even more that they mix groups frequently and that they have created an environment were he connects with most of his classmates (including some who have had academic or socioemotional challenges).

Thank you for the feedback. How does the 90/10 method work? Is there an English speaking teacher with the children throughout the day to help?

The schools are completely walled off so there is no interaction. Global has its own security guard, who is phenomenal by the way. Mr. Wormley knows every child’s name, parent, etc.
