As usual, I tend to think the truth is somewhere in the middle. He was an abusive drunk but successfully went into treatment and continually advocated for more time, and a stable upbringing, for the kids. Even once he was clean, she continued to punish him for his past behavior and alienated the kids. They fought bitterly over money and property, with neither fully in the right. Both should have put the children first, always. Neither did.

I think he made a tactical error in not making a very generous financial settlement, very quickly. Things surely would have gone more smoothly if he had, and the chateau sale could have been part of it. It smacks of egotism and control. She's the mother of his six children and he should have been very generous. Just on principle, let alone his gross behavior on the plane.

She wanted to drag him thru the mud as long as she possibly could. The process is what she desired, to humiliate and tarnish his reputation. Plus the parental alienation. Total woman scorned move.

I'm not saying she's an angel, far from it. But she was entitled to a huge sum for division of property and child support for six kids over 8 years, and it does seem like he withheld it to punish her for leaving and publicly embarrassing him. And she retaliated by withholding the kids, even when it seemed reasonable he was healthy and ready to co-parent. They both suck.

I agree both were at fault but the fact that Laura Wasser dumped Jolie as a client because she was opposed to reunification makes her far worse.
