Extremely thirsty a year postpartum

Anonymous
Is this normal? I am so thirsty all the time. I breastfed up until a few weeks ago, so I thought that was the reason. But the thirstiness remains after weaning. I could drink water all day, and do! It’s especially noticeable when I wake up. My mouth is dry and I’m just so incredibly thirsty. I recently had a checkup and all of my labs were normal.

did they check a1c?

Yes to checking glucose and A1c. Also thyroid function. Look up Sheehan’s Syndrome, thirst is not a symptom and is uncommon condition that occurs post partu, but wouldn’t want to miss this if it is a possible cause.

Yes, it's normal. I mentioned the thirst to my doctor which is why she checked it. Thyroid is normal too.

This doesn't seem to be it either. Thyroid and A1C are normal. I had a c section and didn't loose a ton of blood.

I'm wondering if I just got used to a much higher water intake postpartum because of breastfeeding thirst and my body is used to it now. I always drank lots of water but breastfeeding gave me thirst on another level.

You can develop insulin resistance after pregnancy without labs being notably off—see an endocrinologist who can do a different level of testing.

Just from experience, they don't give a sh&t unless you are pre diabetic by A1C

I would ask a naturopath, maybe they have a different view

Does not sound normal to me. Don't box yourself into postpartum only issues

After checking for diabetes look into having an autoimmune panel done. Dry mouth was my first symptom.

Anemia can also result in extreme thirst. What's your diet like?
