I'm starting to prepare to get back into teaching, what is it that you are looking for in a candidate today?

A pulse
A clear criminal background check

Capability of getting kids with zero concentration to learn four or so years of school in less than a year so they perform well on tests. Ability to deal with insane parents who think their angels could never have possibly misbehaved in any way.

OP are you trying to decide which subject to get re-certified in, or are you just looking for a list of soft skills to develop?

This. OP, you can get canned by a neighboring district and be in a classroom across town before the end of the month. It’s bad.

I agree. I don’t recommend returning.

As for getting hired, you won’t have a problem at all. We still have vacancies because we can’t find people willing to stay.

In my district, the only subs who don't get invited back are the ones who sleep on the job.

The subs also let the kids know that another district pays more and they go to the highest paying job.

I never knew how much my teachers made or thought about their hourly wage.

Also subs rarely teach anymore. It's lucky if they enforce doing curriculum material that the teacher left.

For anyone going back into teaching, I would think through what places you want to teach at, how you will handle tech in the classroom, how you will handle today's kids, etc.

You may have more energy due to returning. And more forewarning vs. being forced. Wrap your head around the new world and you may do better than those who had to work through the pandemic.

I think the way to go is to reduce device use in class. Get kids off phones and computers. Those promote goofing off and aren't needed to learn.

Clearly written by a teacher and not an admin. Admin would never say the quiet part out loud.

If you report the truth you will get fired and retaliated instantly in US schools.

Instead of principals we should call them principricks because the are pricks more than they are pals as they harass us, degrade us, blame us and discard us neglecting their jobs if supporting us
