Very disturbing revelations about one of the most famous novelists.

| Nasty. I am not liking how the article's author romanticize the relationship either. |
| Can someone please summarize this? I'm not I want to invest the time to read this very long article. |
| As someone who had a difficult childhood, this is completely believable from her end. Can't figure things out from his. |
| I have no problem with this at all. Like a PP, I'm also a person from a difficult childhood. And I am also a person who fell in love with someone much older when in my teens. Things can be more complicated than they appear, and complicated in ways that other people are not going to understand. |
40 something year old McCarthy finds his muse in a 16 year old girl who has suffered unimaginable abuse for much of her young life. She credits him for keeping her from dying young. The author romaticizes their relationship. |
| Joyce Maynard part 2 |
+1 I have no problem with this. |
He's a predator. The part where she was scared she had done something wrong and started lisiting her"desirable" traits like being able to cook and change the typewriter ribbion was incredibly sad. It's a small audience but I hope this reaches young girls who are also in a similar situation. I wish it was handled by a better writer though. Too many flowery lines that borders on the line of being creepy given the topic at hand. |
| What does “muse” mean in this context? Was he banging a 16-year old when he was 40? |
No. You will have to read the article. |
Famous author is revealed to be the sexual predator / experience plagarist of an underage girl. |
| Excellent writers are not often excellent humans. No surprises here. |
This one is not really bothering me. Not sure she was underage either. 17 is not underage in most states at that time. And the part about being chased by the FBI seems flat out false to me. Never happened. |
| oh gosh - i am so relieved. i was thinking this was Frank McCourt - author of Angela's Ashes. I am way behind the times. |
