Blair graduation at UMD College Park

Looking at the schools website calendar, seems like Blair is finally going back to another venue and I'm surprised MCPS has decided to go back to UMD as a graduation venue. Any other Blair parents who think UMD might be a better idea and could be a good venue?

I'm surprised to see that because we were told by our principal that doing graduation at UMD was cost prohibitive...

I wondered the same thing too. Apparently Clarksburg is now switching from MSM to UMBC and since Clarksburg is a pretty big school too.

The last few years before the pandemic it had been at Xfinity Center.

I thought it was a pandemic thing that they didn't change for a few years but that was bad. Way too little room and in the hot sun which made the program really condensed and unpleasant. Tickets were extremely limited which meant family members could not see kids graduate and some of the kids are the first high school graduates in their families. Grateful they finally moved it to a venue that's size appropriate.

That's after the pandemic. For few years before the pandemic, it was at UMD's Xfinity center.

but, but, but graduations should be at schools! we shouldn't have to drive to go to a graduation! they shouldn't be held outside the county! (what else am I forgetting?)

RM use to have it at Xfinity Center too before pre-COVID, and WJ was also going to graduate at UMBC during the 2019-20 year too.

Did MCPS do graduations at UMBC pre-COVID too?
