My son plays with DC Soccer Rec league. He is in 2nd grade and we are probably going to continue with rec and look at signing him up for pre-travel. He will definitely be playing pre-travel in the Spring but I am wondering if it is worth it/fair to sign him up for the Winter session.
We could make all the practices but play very few games over the winter session. We go to WV many weekends during the winter so he wouldn't be able to play in the games. I'm trying to figure out if it is worth it/unfair to another kid if my son won't be playing in many games. He is a good soccer player and he would be practicing with his friends. I know he would like it and I don't mind taking him to practice once a week. What say all of you? |
| For DSCS, the pre-travel games on the weekends are really just scrimmages amongst all the kids in the DCSC pre-travel program. It's pretty low key so I wouldn't be worried at all about missing the weekends. |
| Just sign him up for the practices then, its not unheard of. It's a good way for new kids to join the club. They will only say no if your son's skill level is so far behind it drags down team practices or there is a club policy against practice only membership. |
| Tell the coach your winter plans. If coach says sure, just come to practices and what games you can make, then your son isn't taking another player's spot. The coach will add an additional player, knowing your plans. |
