Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton for their work in developing tools for understanding the neural networks that underpin artificial intelligence.
Last year, Hinton quit his job at Google so he could speak freely about the dangers of AI applications, and says that a part of him now regrets his life’s work. Can someone who has the NY Times gift the interview where Hinton warns about AI? https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/01/technology/ai-google-chatbot-engineer-quits-hinton.html |
Sounds like the plot of T2 |
Lots to be creeped out about.
Washington Post had a good article recently (gift link). https://wapo.st/4dFV6B7 |
Was interesting when two separate A.I.s were paired together a few years ago, within a matter of hours they developed their own encrypted language unlike any human has ever seen and were transmitting massive amounts of data between themselves.
They pulled the plug on both of them. Skynet will happen due to human hubris and complacency. Just look at the people now who think it is normal to carry around a cell phone, with no clue as to what they really are doing. |
Why didn't they send another AI or two to hack the first two, lol. |
Got interested to answer my own q. https://techcrunch.com/2016/10/28/googles-ai-creates-its-own-inhuman-encryption/ |
Google tries to play it off as "cool". JFC! We have idiots in charge of A.I. I am reminded of the Oppenheimer quote, "I am the destroyer of worlds." |
We should treat AI as a threat to all of us but human greed seems to be prevailing. |
FIFY Most people could care less and won't benefit from it. It's mostly going to be used for surveillance monitoring and military purposes, as well as automating the big tech companies. |
