GT/AAP Appeals

Nope. The fact is that the kids on this thread got accepted through the standard process by AAP Committee.
That's the fact. Sorry.

Has anyone applied for AAP for 4th grade in the past?

Yes, a mom on this site has several times mentioned that her child was rejected last year in second grade with high scores and a GBRS of 9, then got in this year using the same scores but a higher GBRS (11) from the third grade teacher (will attend center in 4th).

Thanks as it seems I will have to do the same as my DS did not get in even with a wisc result

Sorry to hear the outcome 23:30 Good luck with the ongoing process, your DC is lucky to have a parent who is so concerned and involved.

My dd got in with wisc 124 and Gbrs 7.

To those who weaseled your way in through the back door, thanks for adding to the overcrowding problem to the kids who played by the rules and were rightfully accepted the 1st time because of their merits.

I find it quite interesting that our resident Thread Troll showed up at 11:24 with this new round of ignorance. I say interesting, because at 11:35, 9 minutes after our troll showed up, a comment was posted on the "average kids" thread:

Anonymous wrote:We have one DC who is about 3 years to 4 years above grade level in most areas and is in AAP.

Other DC is squarely average and these two AAP kids in his grade started teasing him relentlessly a couple of weeks ago in school because he was complimented by the assistant principal about someting non-academic. They will not get off his back.
I have been feeling so angry about this the last few days I feel like I 'd love to sabotage the whole AAP program (it's not like DC1 is challenged in it anyway so for us it wouldn't make much of a difference).

How odd. I'm actually the person who posted this on the other thread. The only time I've posted here is a comment about info I had been given about Level 3 (to the effect that it's one hour a week and not worth going crazy about). I'm not your "troll" and as it happens I have no problem with with the appeals process--seems like a perfectly legit way to deal with a process that's imperfect. But I have real issues with bullies and I'm really angry about these kids' behavior. My DC2 is kind and friendly and has been reaching out to these kids and now this? If AAP becomes another vehicle for kids to badger others (our school already has a terrible social atmosphere in DC2's grade) then I won't feel too bad if the district cancels it as has been happening in cash-strapped districts around the country. Sorry. Other DC soaks up information like a sponge and will do fine in the end regardless of whether AAP exists or not.

So that explains our troll's motivation and resentment... Troll, I am sincerely sorry that your DC has been getting teased by two idiot kids. That is horrible and unkind, and nobody deserves that.

But you are an adult. And you are lashing out at parents who only care about what is best for their DCs during a vulnerable time. And that is beyond horrible, it is horrid. I have some news for you, you (like I) are insignificant relative to the system you despise. And your actions do nothing to sabotage the program. They only create negative energy, and more bitterness in a world that already has too much of it.

I truly hope you find inner peace, and overcome your psychological issues. I hope so for the sake of kind people subjected for your vitriol, and for your sake as well. Because karma is real, and the misery you are feeling is of your own making.

125 WISC is 95%.. ino ther words.. the kid with 125 is in top 5%.

cogat 140 is much higher percentile. looks like they accepted almost all who appealed. where as in the first round it is very restrictive. this only proves appeal process is a farce.

It is a higher percentage, yes...but of what? It measures something...specifically how the child is at taking the the CogAT. The ability to take the CogAT that day is dependent on 1) attention of the kid, 2) how the kid is feeling, 3) the kids intelligence, and 4) preparation.

because of the way the WISC is given, attention is not an issue, preparation does not work, and how the kid is feeling (i.e., sick) can be factored in -- i.e., lets reschedule for a different day. That means the WISC is measuring intelligence whereas the other tests are measuring something that includes intelligence.

Unlike some parents on this board, the county understands this. They also understand that the county can not afford the time or money to give every child a WISC. They understand the shortcomings, and use the GBRS as a measure to offset the other issues.

No point in arguing with troll. Troll has no logic, it only enjoys strife and conflict (like the bug in _Men in Black_).

Here troll argues at 09:05 that too many people get in on appeal so the process is a farce. On page 82 21:23, troll says most people got rejected on appeal.

There is no point arguing with troll. We can have a normal discussion by completely ignoring troll and posting around its blithering. It has happened on this thread previously...

Except, a casual observed might read this in the archives, and worry about the troll.

One other thing is I HATE seeing statistics abused.
