TTC for 6 months +

Curious if people have had success conceiving after 6 months with no luck and without ART.

Yes, took 8 months with first DC. Figured out I wasn't ovulating when I thought I was (not 14 days before period).

How did you figure it out?

I took more than a year at age 34. My husband had some outpatient surgery to improve his test results.

But, just as I was on the verge of starting IUI, an ultrasound tech told me the ultrasound was out of sync with what my ClearBlueEasy fertility monitor indicated.

We tried earlier the next month and I got pregnant. 3 years later I got pregnant within 3 months of trying.

My sister did IVF for her first, then had a natural pregnancy that ended in early miscarriage, then a natural full-term baby.

Although I can never know the truth, I think my systematic reliance on a specific technology may have been the problem. I didn't do basal temperature monitoring or any other corroboration. But I'm grateful for the ultrasound tech sharing that the monitors do go off too late in some cases. This was about 20 years ago. So the monitors probably are different now.

Yes, but depending on your age and your risk tolerance you may want to get help sooner. Sometimes you’re just unlucky and it takes longer. Or there is a problem. Highly personal which one you want to believe in /want to take a chance in.

It took 8 tries to conceive #2, with one miscarriage in there. I was 36. Sought advice of two OBs and one suggested try until I hit one year mark since I previously had no trouble conceiving at 34 and the miscarriage shows I can still get pregnant. Another said she can refer me to get tested if still nothing after 8 months.

OP have you tried ovulation prediction test strips? DH and I tried for a few months around the time we thought would do the trick and no dice - first month using the strips we had our first positive test (I’m 22 weeks now). Worth a shot if you haven’t tried - they are so cheap on Amazon

Test strips are a good idea,‘especially after 6 mo.

Also: take husband to a real fertility clinic and get him tested. Many clinics offer semen analysis and it’s not that much $$. Money well spent to know his numbers.

I also did basal body temping to get pregnant. Showed clearly when I was ovulating.

Kid 1 - took 2 months at age 30
Kid 2 - took 2 months at age 31
Kid 3 - took a year with multiple miscarriages at age 34 (didn’t have baby until I was 36).

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and definitely chart your temperature and use ovulation prediction kits/strips. Fertility Friend is a great app and resource.

My first was conceived on the first try at age 35 and my second took 8 months at age 39.

+1 to this. It’s pretty simple and helped me get pregnant within 2 months each time. If this isn’t working, then you know to get extra testing.

If you’re doing all the temping, tracking, etc. and it’s been 6+ months, it can still happen but the odds are not in your favor. If you haven’t done the whole shebang, try it for a few months, but depending on your age I’d be looking to get a fertility consult. I was able to make one after about 10 months of TTC, and I was only 30.

We didn’t sweat the “when am I ovulating” stuff. We just banged every night and it worked like a charm.

We conceived #2 on month 13 of TTC. No fertility treatments or tests.

I did have a 12 week MC which we conceived on month 4 of trying, so we really only had 7 failed cycles in that year.

No, in my experience if it takes over 6 months you need assistance.

I tried for 5 months and went to RE because i was over 35 and had conceived #1 on our first try. RE did the work up, told me everything looked great, to keep trying AND to add CoQ10. I added CoQ10 and two cycles later I was pregnant. She’s nearly six and currently whining in bed. 🤣

I can’t remember the brand I used but I think it was “high absorption” and had an orange lid. I took 400mg daily per RE. Not sure that was the reason I got pregnant fairly quickly after talking to the RE but I did look up some studies and saw some support for improvement of egg quality.

Good luck!
