Hey folks, let's clear up some things about JD Vance!!

Anonymous
First of all, Wall Street and the financial world HATES him. Some people think that because some tech likes him, including some fintech, that it means the big financial institutions like Vance. They don't. They openly hate him. It's well documented. I'll provide some links, but go look it up yourself.

Why do they hate him so much? He is not, despite what some Trumpies will tell you, "pro business". He is pro-crypto, which most mainstream business and ESPECIALLY big financial institutions, do not want anything to do with hit.

Number two, and probably the BIG reason, is that Vance is pro-tariff. No one, and I mean NO ONE, who runs a business, who works in finance, who works for any credible financial institution of ANY stripe, wants tariffs. They are a populist idea, supported by low-info types, and while they can be effective in punishing a trading partner, or realigning a supply chain, they are very bad for business and they are a HUGE driver of inflation.

Jamie Dimon is not impressed by crypto bros and pro-inflation, bad-for-business nonsense like tariffs, and in fact he will work hard to make sure that no crypto bros, tariff freaks or anyone who supports them, gets anywhere near the presidency. With Trump as elderly and infirm as he is, it's so unlikely he'll make it through more than 18 months of his term before he either becomes incapacitated or actually dies. He's a sick man, and Wall Street does NOT want to mess with Vance as president.

As promised, here's some reading for you:

Wall Street is PISSED about the selection and never were hot on Trump, but are now decidedly VERY cold: https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/wall-street-takes-a-back-seat-with-trumps-elevation-of-vance-6183ae08

The big Wall Street donors Trump was counting on, are slamming the checkbooks shut. A lot will sit this one out and can ya blame them? https://www.semafor.com/article/07/16/2024/wall-street-donors-left-with-few-palatable-options-after-jd-vance-pick

Speaking of sitting this one out... it's VERY true that Vance owes his whole political career to Peter Thiel—the ultimate rich guy weirdo, who once wrote "I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible". But here's something interesting you may not know... Vance is SO gross that Thiel has bailed on him. Just two years ago he was writing checks to prop Vance's listless campaign up, now... when asked about the prospect of Vance becoming vice-president or, given Trump's extreme frailty, president, Vance actually appeared to have a literal panic attack at the idea:

The guy is a massive weight around the neck of Trump. Trump had offered the veep job to a different, possibly more likable alternative, but with it appearing likely (to Trump, I guess) that Biden would stay in and there being some chance (in Trump's mind) of a landslide, he switched last minute and picked Vance exactly because he is SO unpalatable... it was supposed to be a dunk on Biden. Liberal tears!

Now, Trump is scrambling to dump this turd.

Anyway, now we don't need to discuss the idea of Vance being "pro-business" or whatever—if you troll with that type of nonsense it's not going to stand. And if this was an informative post, spread the word!

It can get some votes, but as other posters have noted, Trump is the vote-getter.

BUT...

It can lose votes, or in this case, more importantly, lose donors!

No BUT: 1) particular attention is being paid to Trump’s pick since Trump himself is a zillion years old and is apparently surviving on spray tans and McDonalds cheeseburgers. 2) the pick may be spooking some big donors at this point due to Vance’s economic stances, and every campaign needs all the $$$ they can get.

It does when the presidential candidate is 80 years old.

DC doesn’t like Vance. He scares them to death.

They want Vance gone. He ain’t leaving. Check out the desperate lies in the thread about Trump “dropping” Vance.

When you are taking flak, you are over the target.

Democrats are concerned Trump can’t raise enough money with Vance on the ticket? They unselfishly want Trump funded, how caring and kind.

I’m a Democrat and I don’t care what Trump World does. But apparently the big donors aren’t gung ho about economic populism. Imagine that!

That is a bizarre response from Peter Thiel. He says he doesn't want to talk about his political views. Huh? That was such a "not" endorsement for his "dude".

+1 And the VP pick is 39 with a year and a half of government experience.

Vance is just another inside the beltway loser, like Cruz. He's a creature of the east coast elite and literally lives inside the Beltway, but like Cruz, he's SUCH a repellant person, that it is true no one likes him.

But DC insiders aren't the ones turning on Vance. It's Trump and the GOP donor base.

It does.
Al Gore helped elect Bill Clinton to hid first term.
Sarah Palin was popular with some people but ultimately a liability to McCain.
I believe the choice of Johnson by Kennedy was strategic to appeal ro southerners and helped him win.

Think about how repellant you have to be for Thiel to blanch like that... He has said that he doesn't want to give any more because, without naming any names, the people who he supported in the past were failures and disappointments to him.

Also, he is a gay man who has adopted children and Vance is extremely nasty about people who do not have biological children of their own.
