Any predictions on divisions next year - MCSL

Anonymous
Tallyho is the only winless team in Div A, although it seems they will be much better next year with their current roster. Potomac's undefeated in Div B and they have incredible depth in 13/14 boys and girls especially 14 year old girls, which also means there will be a big hole in that age group next year. Wildwood Manor dominated Div D and they would've beaten a handful of Div A and B teams this year. What do you think will happen next year?

I have no idea, but I am glad to finally see a post about MSCL! lol.

How do they determine which team moves up or down?

Same! Haha.

As I understand it, they run simulations based on the top two performers in each age group/stroke per team to determine Divisions. Any maybe other information? The problem with that approach is that teams with a few standouts but no depth can end up ranked higher than their dual-meet performance ends up being. I don't understand the purpose of scoring dual meets if they're not going to use that information, so I hope someone can tell me that they do actually use it!

Why don’t they just move teams based on points/wins losses?

My kid had a leaked version Saturday, ask around.

What do you want to know? Happy to report a few teams.

The above response is from it. I don’t have a way to attach and am not recreating

Bc the divisions are in ranked order. So a team that goes winless in division A would likely crush a lower ranked team. And vice versa.

Plus there are only 5 meets a season cap the data would be super bunched.

And to the other poster, dual meets are used to determine current year division winners so scores are used for something.

Check MCSL divisions here https://reachforthewall.org/2022/06/17/mcsl-the-nuts-and-bolts/ for an explanation of how next year divisions are determined. This comes out the evening after divisional so most teams know at their end of season banquet. Of note it does NOT do age ups so a standout that got you a lot of points might move to a different age group next year and not be quite so good.

PP who asked - thanks.

I still think dual meet results should be incorporated into determining Division assignments. We had too many lopsided meets in our Division this year, I think largely a result of the current method.

Right but you could just move up or down one division per year

The current system of some teams moving up two divisions at a time or a team (like ours) that went 4-1 last summer then moving *down* doesn’t make much sense at all.
