Taking algebra 2 in 8th grade? How about other W schools?

Talk to the counseling department

Its not just the W schools. Either the middle school offers it or the kids have to go to the high school to do it.

We will talk to the counseling department. Just wanted to see how the numbers look on the ground.

There are a few kids that are taking it. Most of them started in algebra in 6th skipping 7/8. I did hear of one case where the child skipped geometry and went straight to Algebra 2.

Thank you very much! Are those kids taking it at their HS?

I cannot imagine they skipped geometry. They probably did it over the summer or another time.

My son's bff took geometry and algebra 2 in 8th grade at an MCPS MS. He took IM in 6th, Algebra in 7th then geometry and algebra II in 8th. This is at a MS co-located with a HS so no need to worry about transportation. OP, there are going to be a million answers to your questions, but the one thing you can always count on in MCPS is that there is little consistency.

You are correct. Geometry is a MD state graduation req.

I know a rising 8th grader that just took Alg 1 and Geom in 7th. He'll be taking Alg 2 in 1st period at his future HS then busing to MS for 2nd and the rest of his day. He also scored over 300 on his MAP-M. Sharp kid.
