Menus with no prices.

Why do restaurants publish menus with no prices? What does this achieve?

Well, generally, a menu with prices is given to the male who is the host.

The purpose is that this is a very, very expensive and overrated restaurant.

It seems to be more common among very normally priced restaurants everywhere.
It's infuriating and pointless. I dont know what they're telegraphing. Like - you're not per se or the french laundry; random oyster bar in boston's back bay. prices matter.

I'm sick of eating out. It's an exercise in having to constantly be in the offensive because the restaurant tries to take its customers to the cleaners with no prices menus, service fees, etc. it's just not enjoyable.

yessss - so true.
same with hotels. i'm constantly reading the fine print to find out how i'll be shaken down upon arrival. I really dont think our parents felt this way

It's a sign everything will be very expensive, and I should leave immediately.

What restaurants have no prices on menu? I haven’t seen this.

If you mean online it’s because prices change.

Do you mean printed?

Same. Even country club menus list prices.

In 2024:

Eating out sucks

Resorts suck, are overcrowded, don’t have enough staff and charge ~$100.00/night “resort fee” that isn’t transparent when they display the room rate.

Flying sucks because the price quoted is for Economy which has basically become like taking the bus. So you think $550, ok I’ll bite. Then bag fees, a fee to pick a seat, and constant reminders that you can upgrade to economy plus and travel like human for only $1,000 more.

Skiing has become just awful (even locally) because of consolidation.

I so loved eating out and travelling. We miss it dearly and had so many fun family memories doing these things together. But we’ve opted out.
