High End Skilled Nursing Facility with independent living on site?

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend a skilled nursing facility in NOVA that also has independent living? My father needs skilled nursing care for several weeks (but possibly longer / until he dies - pancreatic cancer) and I'm hoping to find a place where my mom can have an apartment on site (but she's totally independent).

We'd love something high-end, and they have a very generous budget.

I’m so sorry. My mom passed from pancreatic cancer. It’s awful and brutally quick. I would not bother making them move with such a short time frame. Why not get round the clock nursing care in their residence?

I’m sorry and agree with the PP. Why move? If budget allows just hired round the clock care.

OP here.

They think he likely needs equipment that a skilled nursing facility would have but can't be brought to the home, so in-home care might result in a return to hospitalization.

But knowing he could only have a few months I want my mom to be comfortable (and not have the stress of driving back and forth).

Like what exactly? If you are managing his dying process that can absolutely be done at home.

Falcons Landing in Sterling has a rehab and also living arrangements. I know they cater to former military but when my mom needed a rehab they were an option (but didn’t have any openings).

Heritage Hall in Leesburg may be an option too. It looks awful (really dated, mostly shared rooms, looks like a converted school) but the care is amazing and the staff top notch.

Look for a continuing care community. Your mom can be in independent living and your dad can be in skilled nursing.

Agree with this. Continuing care places will allow him to live in assisted living with hospice care while mom maintains her own apartment in independent living. Very common.

Are you looking for something long term for mom or just temporary?

Ask your Mom if she has any friends at one of these type of properties. Of course many won't meet the needs but it's good to ask in case she can go somewhere where she knows others.

It's DC not NOVA but Grand Oaks (affiliated with and next door to Sibley) has that set-up. It was wonderful for my father.

Greenspring in Springfield is a CCRC and may have what you need.
