Vaping therapist

Anonymous
I finally set up therapy sessions for troubled teen. And the therapist was nice but then he was vaping during the intro session with us.
I would not want him vape in front of my teen…. Is it okay to ask him not to vape? I don’t want him offended…

Find another therapist.

I looked for such a long time and then this. He had great number of references — good, has proper licenses and masters degree. Talk was good… but vaping — it was my first time actually seeing someone e vape that closely…

So disappointing…

Is it possible that he had back-to-back sessions so there was no other way for him???

Therapy was supposed to destress and now I’m upset that I have to turn him down…

Beyond inappropriate and would never want someone with that judgment talking to my kid without me in room and that defeats point of therapy. Sorry you had this happen.

Are you really making excuses for this grown man? I’m starting to get a gist of what some issues are in your family…

I would tell my kid it was not appropriate at all, and I would tell the therapist, and I would never go back.

I am slightly shocked and conflicted. The child was not yet with us when the ‘incident’ happened - just one release of steam (looking away from the screen) or whatever it is and then fidgeting with the device for the rest of the session; it was just parents session to provide the background. My husband later just said — crazy! But he wants to continue…

Luckily, the kid (who like a sponge absorbs all negative influences - it seems lately) was not there yet. It was just us, the parents.

Thanks. I’ll man up and cancel second session and look through the directory again… uh, wish me luck.

Struggling with defiant kid with adhd…
Worn out…
Exhaustion — sheer exhaustion.

Would you really tell the therapist? You are so brave. What if he has issues of his own?..

I think I will just cancel without explanation, quietly…

No way would I continue. If the therapist is that addicted he isn’t going to be focused all the time on what you or your child are saying, he is going to think about when it’s good timing to quickly vape. And I don’t want my kid thinking it’s okay to vape.

Strange world… just when you think you have things set up to make things better, it turns out you need to reset it already.
