Any feedback on this SLAC? Personal experience? Student will be majoring in Sociology and/or Political Science. Thank you.

I hadn't heard of it until now. With any SLAC, I would look into the financial strength of the institution, and also at enrollment trends. Be wary of any school at which enrollment is declining over time. From what I can see, Lycoming is in decent (not great, not terrible) financial shape. I didn't look into enrollment, but you can research that.

I do know the institution and would urge that you follow this poster’s advice.

I'm not familiar with it.

Middle of the pack SLAC in a decent location. Would depend on what net cost of attendance.

Knew a few kids in HS who went (I’m from PA). Kind of a grim location. Probably natural beauty nearby though.

I think of it as a peer of the quasi-state schools (like Shippensburg or Slippery Rock. I am not sure why someone would choose it if they don’t live nearby. Someplace like Elizabethtown or West Chester just seems much nicer and more appealing.

I know one who graduated in the early 90s (very successful lawyer) and my child's ex who is there currently. It's a great SLAC, relatively unknown, but gives great education and experiences.

Our student looked at it - they liked the location - hiking and nature nearby. They didn't like the size - way too small for them. Our student was more interested in STEM-related fields which was not Lycoming's strength.

I was curious about it too, they look like they have some interesting art/digital stuff going on. DD didn't apply, but I am still curious.

By the way, Elizabethtown offers an engineering major with a number of different options. The engineering faculty at Elizabethtown - judging only by the reputation of the schools where the faculty received their PhD’s - is as good as any school in the country. Truly impressive.
