Free Afternoon in Boston - what should I do?

Anonymous
I have some free time tomorrow after a work summit and flying out Saturday morning. What would be a good way to spend 3-4 hours? I’m staying in Seaport. TIA

What sorts of things would interest you most? Personally at this time of year I would probably do a long walk through a few neighborhoods. Weather is probably perfect for it.

Start on edge of public garden, go through the Common, across Beacon Hill, along the Charles for a bit, then across downtown into the North End and eat there

I’d head to Prudential center area and visit the Boston public library and Newbury street.

That leads to Public Garden, commons, tgen to Faneuil Hall Marketplace… north end for Italian and Mike’s pastry

Tatte is a nice place to have coffee and food as well as Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

That might be too much for 3-4 hours. Then I’d skip Faneuil Hall Marketplace and maybe visit before your flight.

Historical walking tour

Walking through Back Bay would also nice.

If you want to hit a museum, the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum is very nice

Brookline has JFK's childhood home and good lunch places.

Beacon Hill has some amazing homes.

Cambridge has Harvard and MIT campuses. Each has architecturally notable buildings.

Walk around Newbury Street/Back Bay/Public Garden. There is a modern art museum in Seaport if that's your thing. You can also check out North End (old Italian neighborhood). Or Chinatown, which still has Chinese presence (unlike DC). Boston is very walkable.

Tatte is a mediocre chain that we have in the DC area. I would not go there.

A step above mediocre but agreed not worth going out of the way for. Flour Bakery would be my go to in Boston.

Walk. Everywhere. Such a nice city to walk. Start at Boston common. Walk through public garden. Walk around Back bay and beacon hill and then Take the redline over to Cambridge and Harvard square and the neighborhoods around there.

Isabella Stewart Gardner or MFA
Swan boats if the weather is nice
Not sure about the Celtics schedule tomorrow

I’d walk the public gardens, through beacon hill and back bay. If time, I’d grab an Uber and spend an hour or so at the Isabella Gartner museum

The last time I had a free afternoon I did a hop on/hop off tour. But I had not been to this city before, so it was a great overview of the entire city and really easy to be solo.
