The condition, known as neurocysticercosis, is a brain infection linked to larvae from pork tapeworms. It's rare: It hospitalizes roughly 1,000 to 2,000 people every year in the U.S.

Friends don't let friends eat soft bacon! đź«

My preferred doneness has always been crispy!

What a provocative title. I've never eaten bacon but plenty of people do and you can get mad cow from eating cow.

It’s not at all rare. I have seen numerous cases of this in the US. Many are in people who come from pork-centric cultures such as the DR or Mexico, it’s also in the Caribbean.

You don't get it from eating raw pork though. It's coming into contact with feces of someone who has it.

Cook your pork. Problem solved.

Yes you do. If you eat undercooked pork infected with it you can get it that way. How do you think people pass it on in their feces?

This has been known since at least the 1960s when I was growing up. Also known for the past 50 years has been the fact that if you cook your pork well (does anyone anywhere eat raw pork?) the problem goes away.

OP is a troll.

I don’t eat pork because pigs shouldn’t be kept in tiny cages where they can’t even turn around. It’s torture. Nothing to do with religion.

That's not a historic thing. That's modern industrial farming.

Exactly. I’ll eat organic meat or I’ll pass.
