If you have gingivitis, how do you keep your gums from being inflamed?

I have bad gums. I am told to floss religiously and brush twice a day. I do and I still see little improvement in the redness!

My dentist did a laser type treatment followed by 10 days of a chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash and then a second laser treatment. Worked like a charm and haven't had issues since.

I get it under control by brushing, then flossing, then brushing again after the flossing with a high-fluoride prescription toothpaste. If I do this for a few days, my gums go back to normal.
