Is it appropriate for a high school teacher to give his cell phone number to his students?

And does this answer change if he's a coach and they are on his team? What if they are not on his team?

I don't have a student athlete, so I don't know what the accepted practice is.

Never appropriate for a teacher or coach to have a minor students number or the other way around.

My son’s middle Middle school soccer coach has team Numbers and they have his and are in a group text chat. Some coaches use snap chat or other social media groups to communicate with team. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

How so? I monitor my son’s phone so I see all of the communication and it’s about practice and games.

Snaps disappear when they are viewed, so you won’t see it.

My husband is a HS teacher and would never ever communicate directly in a digital way. Ick.

Snaps disappear! You aren’t very social media educated I see. Plus, why would an adult need this much direct contact with a minor in middle school?
